Ethical issues Defining ethical issues in the media Ethics in media is about doing the right/moral thing. Something may be legally correct, but is it the right thing to do? Considering the ethical impact of a media product is important to ensure the product does not cause offence or bother those using/consuming it. Some of the areas that effect ethics in media are-  Codes of practice  Public interest  Privacy rights Levels of violence  Representation of groups Morrison's burger advert promotes unhealthy eating and and so was banned by the ASA. Philadelphia advert was banned by the ASA as it was conforming to gender, harmful stereotypes. Barclays advert was banned by the ASA as it caused serious offence to those who suffered from anaphylactic shock.  Legal issues Data protection act- If you collect data about individuals during the creation of a media product the the data protection act must be adhered or you could face a lawsuit. Personal data could be collected through journalistic investigation or in a social media campaign.  1988-uk based law To protect customers and personal data exp. social class, lifestyle or income, Or an organised system- how digital personal information is protected as it is easily accessible when digital online.  8 valid principles within this law- Requires the data subjects consent Should only be kept for the reason it was collected Should be kept accurate  Should be kept up to date Should only be kept for as long as it is needed Should be made available to the data subject Should be processed securely or anyone can access that information  Should be processed within the UK Freedom of information act- The public has the right to access information that is held by public sector o...

 Revenue streams What are they? How do we generate them? Amazon prime appeals to a mass audience as they offer a variety of different gadgets, toys, stationary, education supplies etc. this appeals to all different ages, as well as different people gaining different incomes,  as although some things are expensive, some are affordable.  The anti wrinkle cream advert, appeals to it's target audience as 35 year olds are invested in keeping themselves young and so they will want to buy cream that reduces wrinkles.  The video doorbell also appeals to the target audience as most 35 year olds have their own family homes and therefore like to have the latest gadgets to keep their home modern as well as appealing for their children.

UK film production companies to 'glossy dramas'  There has always been a lot of pressure on smaller films, as it is a tough end of the market where there are not many successes.  Although it is very challenging, it is even more difficult today due to big budget films doing so well as well as the pressure from high end TV.

What financial options are there for you? Every project needs finance and this come through streams of revenue. These come with risk, unpredictability and return.  Things that affect the type of finance that can be used/attracted- Size of organisation  Commercial/Government  Sponsorship- payment for brand association with the final product exp. air bnb sponsored the olympics. the emirates invested a large amount of money and resulted in the stadium being named after the emirates.  Advantages-  Cross promotion, the sponsor can promote your product and you can promote their brand. Gives a good reputation to the film as they are working with a reliable brand.  They help to fund a lot of the project. Disadvantage - You do not have full control of your product, the sponsorships may suede you away from what you are wanting to produce.  You may have a sponsor overload, no focus on a specific brand and no one pays as much attention to each brand as they would...
